Infusion Studioô is a
Microsoft Windows application that is remotely accessed
from your institution over the Internet. The software is
hosted in the Monterey Medical Solutions Data Center
located in Dallas, Texas. Any Windows 2000 or Windows XP
computer can access the Infusion Studio application using
the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection protocol (RDP).
All management information
and audit data pertaining to each order in a secure
Microsoft SQL Server database that is unique for each
customer. Both the Infusion Studio application and
database reside in a remote data center outside of the
hospital and are accessed over the Internet from existing
hospital workstations using a secure connection. In
addition, existing hospital printers and in-house
compounders can be used with Infusion Studio.
The Infusion Studio
system encompasses equipment and software that is outside
of the hospital in conjunction with existing equipment
within the hospital:
Outside of the Hospital:
Microsoft Windows 2003
Terminal Server that hosts the Infusion Studio
application in the Monterey Medical Solutionís remote
Microsoft SQL 2005
Database Server that stores the custom and secure
Infusion Studio management and ordering data.
Inside of the Hospital:
Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional/Windows XP Professional workstations for
accessing the Infusion Studio application.
Laser printers used for
printing orders and other general printing.
Label printer, such as
the Datamax label printer, for label printing
HL7 v2.x ADT messages
can be transmitted directly to the Monterey Medical
Solutionsí data center and the patient information
will be stored in the customer's database. (Optional)
If you are using an
in-pharmacy BAXA compounder, Monterey Medical
Solutions provides SFTP server software that is used
to receive the BAXA compounder mixing instructions
from the remote the remote data center.
If CAPS is used as the
compounding facility, the Infusion Studio
application is configured to communicate orders
directly to the appropriate CAPS formulary.
requires no additional hardware or system
Since the Infusion Studio
application and database reside outside of the hospital,
the hospital workstations access the Infusion Studio
application using the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection
client software that comes built-in to Windows XP
Professional and can be downloaded for free from Microsoft
for Windows 2000 Professional. The Remote Desktop
connection to the Terminal Server is an encrypted, 128-bit
secure connection. The Microsoft High Encryption Pack is
required for 128-bit security for Windows 2000
Professional and can be downloaded for free from

Each client workstation
that will access the Infusion Studio application must have
the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client software
that is built-in to Windows XP Professional and can be
installed at no cost for Windows 2000 Professional. The

Network and Firewall
The following network
firewall tasks need to be performed to configure access to
the Monterey Medical Solutionsí remote data center:
- Remote Desktop
Connection. Enable the hospitalís firewall to allow
outbound communication with the Monterey Medical
Solutionsí Terminal Server on port 3389. This enables a
workstation within the hospital to access the Infusion
Studio application in the remote data center and to
print to laser and label printers in the hospital. The
connection uses 128-bit high encryption.
- (Optional) SFTP Server
Computer. If your institution has a BAXA compounder,
Monterey Medical Solutions will provide SFTP Server
software for secure communication for the BAXA
compounder files. Mixing instructions for the BAXA
compounder, in the form of PAT files, are sent from the
remote Monterey Medical Solutionsí data center to this
computer. Your institutions firewall must be configured
to allow inbound SFTP traffic.
The following steps must
be performed on each client workstation that will use the
Infusion Studio application:
- Install and configure
the Remote Desktop Connection client software.
- Install and configure
the triCerat ScrewDrivers client software if printing is
required from the workstation. The triCererat
ScrewDrivers client software enables users to print to
any workstation-accessible printer on the hospitalís

Audit Trail. An audit
trail of critical Infusion Studio functions is logged
and can be provided to the customer.
Microsoft Terminal Server session timeouts and
Infusion Studio application timeouts are used to
enforce session security.
The Infusion Studio
application uses Microsoft SQL Server to store application
and clinical data. The database is backed-up daily and all
backup files are encrypted using 128-bit AES encryption.
The encrypted backup is stored in the remote data center
and in an off-site, geographically diverse location.
